Veronika Kudermetova: The first impression of the quarantine is a shock

Tennis

Russian tennis player Veronica Kudermetova spoke about the quarantine in Melbourne.

“Of course, the first impression is a shock. I could not believe at all that this could happen. Before flying to Australia, we had preliminary calls from Tennis Australia, with WTA, we were told all the rules. All the rules were also sent to the post office. The bottom line was that we should be put on airplanes in sections, and if someone in your section tests positive, then the entire section is put in isolation. But there was no question that the entire plane would be put on isolation. So when I received this message, I was shocked. Then came the realization and frustration that you came to the “Grand Slam”, you want to play well, and you are imprisoned for 14 days without tennis. Someone will train and prepare for these two weeks, while others will just sit. This is not fair to those in quarantine. Therefore, it is sad. On the plane, when I arrived at my seat, there were coaches sitting next to me – not mine, but strangers. My team generally sat on the other side. To be honest, they were imprisoned in a very strange way, there was no talk of any sections at all. I don’t know who was distributing, there were no sections. Then, when the landing was over, we sat down ourselves and kept our distance: a person sits, an empty row, then a person.

The quarantined schedule is this: since there is no need to wake up early, I go to bed late and get up at 10 am. I woke up, had breakfast and started a two-hour workout. My room is small, so I have to raise the bed, lean it against the wall in order to somehow free up space. On it I try to do everything possible: jumps, abs, squats, various exercises. Whatever we come up with, we do it. When I arrived at the hotel, I had nothing. But after they announced to us about the strict quarantine, they told us: “If you need something – an exercise bike, some dumbbells, rubber – you tell us, we will provide you with everything.” So I asked for an exercise bike medball and dumbbells. They brought everything, so, yes, I train in the room as best I can. We do our best to maintain some good physical condition. People on the side and above me, apparently, were also closed, so balls are constantly hitting the ceiling, someone is playing tennis against the wall. I think all tennis players do not pay attention to this, because they understand that everyone is in difficult conditions. Therefore, no one complains about anyone.

There were rumors of a quarantine violation. As I understand it, it was about Julia Putintsev… She had a mouse in her room and she opened the door to drive it out. Then the guards came running and began to swear: “You are violating the quarantine norms.” She’s like, “How? I want to kick the mouse out because it’s running around in my room.” It seems to me that from this situation they began to say that tennis players are trying to violate the quarantine norms.

Conduct the “Helmet” in AbuDhabirather than Australia? I didn’t think about it before, but now, if you think about it, it’s a good idea. I think if we played for one year outside of Australia, nothing would have happened. Probably, it would be wiser because of the quarantine regulations to play in the Emirates, so that everyone can prepare, were in the same conditions. Now, of course, it is too late and there is no need to think. But that would be a good idea “, – quoted Kudermetov channel “Ball-point“.
