Today the Ukrainian tennis player celebrates his 47th birthday Andrey Medvedev… Portal Editorial Board GoTennis.ru joins in congratulations to Andrey, wishes him good health and success in life.

Andrei Medvedev was born on August 31, 1974 in Kiev, and began his professional career in 1991. A year later, at the age of seventeen, he sensationally won tournaments in Genoa and Stuttgart, and quickly became one of the best players in the world of the early nineties.

In 1994, Medvedev won the Masters tournaments in Monte Carlo and Hamburg, and in May of the same year he reached the highest in his career, fourth in the ATP rating. By the way, at the tournament in Hamburg, he won three more times – in 1994, 1995 and 1997.

Medvedev achieved the greatest success at the Grand Slam tournaments in Paris, at Roland Garros. In 1993 and 1994, the Ukrainian reached the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, losing both times to the future champion, Spaniard Sergi Brugera. And in 1999 Medvedev reached the final of Roland Garrosdefeating Pete Sampras and Gustavo Kuerten along the way. In the decisive match, the Ukrainian confidently won the first two sets against Andre Agassi, but then the American bounced back and made a career Grand Slam.

After that, Medvedev played two more seasons in Tours and in 2001 ended his tennis career. In 2006 he was elected Honorary President of the Ukrainian Tennis Federation. In addition, Andrey is engaged in business, as well as takes part in various veteran tournaments and conducts master classes
