Leon Edwards: “I will become the champion by the end of 2021”

UFC top welterweight Leon Edwards, who will fight big-time promotion veteran Nate Diaz at UFC 263, believes he will win the championship by the end of this year.

“Now everything is different. When I fought Kamaru Usman, I was 23 years old, I was studying and just came to the UFC. Now I am a veteran of the UFC, I have fought against many different styles. I just feel like a completely different person compared to who was then.

I believe I am the number one contender at the moment. I have proven this with my accomplishments, but after I go into the octagon and beat Nate Diaz, I can’t imagine the UFC going in a different direction. I will become a champion by the end of 2021. I picture it in my head and it will happen.

Nate will come out with a desire to fight, as he does in all his fights. I don’t think he is planning to transfer me to the ground and submit. He will press me, as in the fight with Pettis, will try to force me to retreat. I want to defeat him, so I’ll meet him at the center of the octagon, “Leon Edwards told The Mirror.
