On Friday, Andy Ruiz Jr. presented evidence of the hard work he put into preparing for the fight against Chris Arreola. The former heavyweight champion showed 116kg on the scale, 12kg less than he weighed the day before losing to Anthony Joshua in their rematch 16 months ago in Diriya, Saudi Arabia. Ruiz weighed 128 kg in his rematch with Joshua, which is 7 kg more than Ruiz weighed before his historic victory over the previously undefeated British superstar in June 2019 in New York.

40-year-old Arreola also proved to be significantly lighter than in his last fight. Arreola stepped on the California State Athletic Commission scales and showed 103.6 kg. The Riverside, California native weighed 110.6 kg before losing a unanimous decision at the hands of Adam Kovnatsky in August 2019 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

For Ruiz, this will be the first fight with his new coach Eddie Reinoso, best known for his training with Canelo Alvarez. Ruiz’s weight came close to his pre-title shot when he lost by majority decision to Joseph Parker (28-2, 21 KOs) in December 2016 in Oakland.

The Ruiz vs. Arreola duel will take place in the US as a paid broadcast on FOX Sports and will cost $ 49.99 to watch.
